50 Years of the Space Program
On May 25, 1961, [JFK] stood before Congress to deliver a special message on “urgent national needs.” He asked for an additional $7 billion to $9 billion over the next five years for the space program, proclaiming:
“First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.”

The romance of space travel is dwindling. I have a deep history with NASA, so it’s really sad to hear that the era of manned space missions have now come to an end. Such a shame that we won’t be able to tap our full potential in a long time.
